BBC Scandals: The tragic girl in the middle of the fallout from Tony Blackburn's sacking by the BBC was allegedly raped by a world-famous singer after the star and girl appeared on Top of the Pops. The claim has been made by a friend of Claire McAlpine – who Blackburn is also accused of abusing.
Kelly Gold, now 60, claims that in 1969 her friend was picked out of the crowd during a recording of the Top of the Pops by roadies, and was whisked off to a hotel by the singer who raped her. McAlpine later committed suicide, fearing she was pregnant from the assault. Gold says she is willing to name the star singer, who is still alive and in his 70s.
